Name origin:
Some say Sarawak was derived from the phrase “Saya serah pada awak” in the 1800s, but it’s unlikely, as the word ‘awak’ wasn’t part of the locals’ vocabulary at that time. The generally-accepted explanation is that the name came from serawak, (antimony, a type of mined metal).
